My name is Veronica Hurless and I’m a highly motivated senior at Florida State University. I’m currently pursuing degrees in both Writing, Editing and Media and Media Communication Studies. In 2018, I had the opportunity to intern for a publication that has been a part of FSU's history for over 20 years --- the Kudzu Review, an undergraduate journal of literature and arts that accepts section submissions from all over the nation. The publication consists of four sections: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Visual Arts.

 

 For the entirety of the Fall 2018 semester, I served as an Editorial Assistant for the Fiction section. I generally prefer nonfiction and journalistic writing, but I wanted to gain more knowledge and experience evaluating and engaging in other genres through my internship with the Kudzu.​ As an Editorial Assistant, I read short story submissions (ranging from 4 to 12 pages long) on a weekly basis, wrote formal reader responses for the authors and shorter, less formal critiques (depending on the amount of submissions that week), and I even assisted in talent recruitment and the promotion of the publication.
